Geocaching in and out of the Classroom – Minds on the Move 22.04-29.04.2017
In April (22nd-29th) 2017, students and teachers of Zespol Szkol Ponadgimnazjalnych nr 2 in Kielce visited Ies Moraima, a high school in Loja, Spain. It was the second meeting of teachers and the first one of students from partner schools in Greece, Italy, Lativia, Spain, Poland and Portugal, involved in the project “Geocaching in and out of the Classroom – Minds on the Move”.
ZSP nr 2 was represented by a group of 4 students: Anna Porzucek, Paulina Sztorc, Natalia Wegrzyn, Michal Malarczyk and two teachers: Katarzyna Zygmunt and Katarzyna Wozniak.
During a week stay in Spain the students and teachers visited the historic centre of Loja and a gorgeous Muslim palace the Alhambra in Granada and looked for caches in both cities. The catches in Loja included those created and hidden around the town by the Spanish teachers and students.
On Wednesday 26th and Thursday 27th the students and teachers went geocaching in Loja. They were divided into two groups, one looked for “Water caches” and the other one tried to find “Viewpoint caches”. Both were multi-caches connected with local tourism and issues concerning the local population. They were created by the Spanish students and consisted of 4 singular caches each.
On Wednesday project participants visited the Town Hall and met local authorities. They also listened to the lecture given by a representative of the Loja tourist office.
Students also took part in working sessions and workshops organized in the school. They learnt how to create a cach based on tourism, produced caches in their towns, registered caches found in Loja and Granada. They also visited Ies Moraima school, competed in a “Maths photo contest” and watched experiments prepared for them by Spanish students during the school “Science Fair”.
The visit in Spain ended with the evaluation of the Spanish blended mobility and picking the winner of the photo contest. Finally, all the students and teachers received the Certificates of Participation in the project.
